What
a Parent Needs to Know About Speech and Language for Primary Grades...
Sound Development:
Most children do not develop all of their sounds immediately when they
begin speaking. However, all sounds should develop by a specific
age
or they may need to be remediated by a Speech and Language Therapist.
The following are the ages of mastery by which your child should
be
able to produce the various sounds correctly.

Language
Skills:
A child's language development is essential
to success in primary grades. Many directions are given verbally and
listening and speaking effectively are important to success. Kids who
have language needs may not sound different than other children when
they talk. However, they may struggle with verbalizing needs or making
others understand what they are trying to explain. A child may have
difficulties listening or following directions. These skills can be
helped
by a Speech and Language Therapist.
