Brooke Lewis

My name is Brooke Lewis. I had the privilege of going through the Highland district from seventh grade through high school. After high school, I went to Eastern Illinois University to receive my degree in Elementary Education. I taught my first eight years of my career in Carlyle and now have the opportunity to be back in my home district! I truly love Alhambra Primary and feel lucky to work in such a great school and district! I reside in Highland with my husband, Matt and our three children. We keep very busy with our children's many sporting activities.

Accelerated Reader

Students will be taking an A/R test on all the reading stories in Reading. Students will also read library books and take the A/R test on those books that we have a test on. Students will be required to read and take several of these A/R tests each quarter. I will set goals later for each student. Students will receive a grade on the test they take at the end of each quarter. This becomes part of their reading grade. Students will receive two grades: one for reaching their goal and the other for how well they did with the comprehension questions on the tests taken.

Assignment Sheet

The assignment sheet will come home at the beginning of each week. The work they do not finish each day at school becomes homework and is due the next day. The homework folder should be used to send back the completed homework and any other notes. There will also be a Friday Folder with graded papers to review and a sheet to sign that you have seen these papers.

If the noun is preceded by a possessive word or by an article, it is not capitalized. Ex. Yesterday Mother went to the store. (One can substitute a name such as Janice for Mother.) I believe that his dad is at home. (One cannot substitute a name such as Fred for dad.)

  • Unless the antecedent of a pronoun is provided in the context, the noun is preferred over the pronoun. Ex. Melissa she ran to the corner. Should be: Melissa ran to the corner.
