Ms. Liz Weder-Principal

Ms. Liz Weder begins her fifth year as principal at Highland Middle School and 21st year in education. Previously, Ms. Weder has served as the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director since the fall of 2016. Prior to becoming an administrator, Ms. Weder taught 7th-grade geography at HMS, and served as a coach for both softball and volleyball during her career. Ms. Weder’s educational background includes a Masters's degree in Educational Administration, earned in 2012, and a Bachelor's of Science degree in History, along with a minor in English, and certification in secondary education, graduating summa cum laude in 2000, from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Ms. Weder enjoys reading, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends. Ms. Weder states, “HMS is my home. I am honored to have the opportunity to have a positive impact on kids working in the best community that anyone could be a part of. I am passionate about delivering the highest quality education surrounded by a positive environment that involves students, parents, and staff working together to achieve a common goal. At HMS we are truly committed to “Doing What’s Best for Kids.”

Mr. Matt Baumgartner - Assistant Principal

Mr. Matt Baumgartner - Assistant Principal

Mr. Matthew Baumgartner received his Bachelor's Degree in Science from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville with an emphasis in Mathematics and Secondary Education. Along with earning his degree, he also earned his Middle School Endorsement. Mr. Baumgartner also acquired a Master's Degree in Educational Administration Degree through Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. The 2019-2020 school year was Mr. Baumgartner’s first year as Assistant Principal at Highland Middle School.  He began his teaching career in 2010, with the Alton School District as a high school math teacher where is also led professional learning communities and coached Freshman Baseball. Mr. Baumgartner enjoys family activities with his wife and two daughters. Together they often visit the St. Louis Zoo and Science Center, spend time at local parks, and attend town homecomings and fairs. He follows local sports especially the St. Louis Cardinals and the 2019 Stanley Cup Champions, the St. Louis Blues. Mr. Baumgartner is excited to be a part of the amazing community that is Highland Middle School. He is determined to provide a secure and challenging learning environment where students can grow and mature.
