Hi, my name is Ms. Kellerstrass and I teach second grade at Highland Primary School. After graduating from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in December of 1995, I substitute taught for a year and half. I started working for the Highland Community Unit School District in January of 1997 as the part-time Vision (gifted program) teacher and part-time Rescue Grant Coordinator. In the fall of 1997 I started teaching second grade andI love it! Teaching and learning are my true passions! I completed my Master's Degree in Instructional Technology in the spring of 2004. Then in 2007, I earned my National Board Certification. Outside of school, I look forward to the evenings I get to talk or skype with my daughter Jordan, who lives in Los Angeles, California. I enjoy spending my free time with my two doggies; Brody and Nova. I also have two pet cats Molly and Goose, and our three classroom pet frogs Pickles, Jolly, and Tiny Tim. They share a tank with a weird looking Pleco named Ugly Dougly. I enjoy relaxing with a cup of hot tea, reading, woodworking and caring for my house plants. As my former students will tell you, I tend to get a little goofy sometimes - don't let that scare you - I just love to laugh and have fun.

Hello! My name is Angie Smart. This will be my 6th year teaching 2nd grade at Highland Primary and my 14th year of teaching since I graduated from Iowa State University in 1992. My past teaching experiences have been in first, third and fourth grades as well as two years teaching Guided Reading and a year as a Title I Reading Teacher in Iowa. I am currently working on my Masters of Education from Greenville University, which I plan to complete this spring.
My husband’s military career kept us moving around in the states and overseas, but since his retirement, we have lived in Highland and now near Pocahontas for 11 years. We have four boys, two of whom are adults and the other two are teenagers. Of course, I cannot forget our two cats—Howard and Lily.
During spare time, I enjoy being outside, staying active, and traveling with family and friends. I am also very fond of reading and love collecting books. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year with you and your child!
