Second place at MVC Track & Field Championships! A great finish for the girls! The MVC recognizes first team, second team and third team. Leading the way was first teamer and double champion Taylor Kesner (Sr.). Taylor won the discus with a 128 footer and the shot put with a 40+ foot throw. Olivia Wilke (Sr.) got some expert help this week from former HHS TJ stars Jenna U & Bailey L and turned that instruction into an MVC championship in the triple jump.
A big surprise in the second team category was the 4x100M Relay. Olivia Wilke, Lauren Maas (Fr. & not pictured), Tanille Thompson (Sr.), and Gillian Trover (So.) upset Triad to take second place in the fastest relay race on the track. Tanille Thompson doubled up on the second team by taking second place in the 100M Hurdles. Pulling off the other second-team performance was Grace Meyer (Sr.) in the 3200M. Grace’s medal collection from her high school days will include a medal in the 3200 in every MVC meet of the past four years.
The third place finishers started with the 4x800M relay. The team of Maggie Von Hatten (Sr.), Krista Rittenhouse (Jr.), Maddie Dortch (So.), and Paige Schaible (Sr.) came across the finish line shortly behind the state-ranked 4x8 teams of Triad and Mascoutah. Then, throwing sensation Josie Hapack (Jr.) captured third in the discus and later in the shot put. The next third teamer joined the club in the 800M open. Julia Loeh (Sr.) took over the lead with 500 meters to go and held on to it until the last 10 meters of the race when Triad’s Chloe Glough slipped past and pulled CM’s Hannah Weiser right behind her. It was Julia’s best time of the season with a 2:31.99. The last third place group was the 4x200M Relay team of Lydia Hadowsky (Jr.), Cheyenne Choat (So.), Olivia Wilke, and Gillian Trover. They ran an outstanding time despite the strong south wind.
These were just the girls that won medals. So many more girls ran personal records (PRs) or season records. Kudos to Riley Frey (Fr.) for winning her first race ever in the JV 800M. Kudos on a huge PR for Sophia Thomas (Fr.) in the long jump and a great JV title in the 200M. Lydia Hadowsky (Jr.) narrowly missed medals in the 100M Hurdles, pole vault, and high jump. Brooklyn Lackey (So.) worked hard all season and had two second place JV finishes in the hurdle races. Larissa Taylor (Fr.) PR’d in both the JV shot and JV discus. Dani Little (Jr.) won the JV 3200M and jumped a PR in the JV high jump. Jo Fogg (So.) subbed in for an absent anchor in the JV 4x1 and she crossed the finish line first to cap the excellent running of Sophia Thomas, Ashlyn Ray (Fr.), and Tallie Powell (So.). Ashlyn Ray also PR’d in the JV triple. Krista Rittenhouse had a super day that included a JV pole vault PR and a varsity 300M hurdle PR. Liv Heinzmann finished 4th in the 3200 (her favorite race ; ) and had a solid leg in the varsity 4x4. The JV 4x200M team of Tarryn Keeney (Fr.), Ashlyn Ray, Julia Beil (Sr.), and Tallie Powell easily won first place. And, how could I forget the JV 4x800M team? They were ahead of couple of varsity teams throughout most of the race. That included a great lead off leg by Tarryn Keeney followed by some outstanding splits for Emma Warner (Jr.), Madalyn McCall (Jr.) and Riley Frey. I could go and on. Thanks too to the fans that showed up and cheered all morning long. Congratulations to all of the girls. What a great day!
