Dear Highland CUSD #5 Families (Grades 6–12),
As we wrap up the school year, here’s what to expect with student Chromebooks over the summer:
Current 6th–7th graders and 9th–11th graders: Students keep their Chromebook over the summer and are expected to bring it back on the first day of school (charged and ready).
Current 8th graders: Students will turn in their Chromebook & Charger at the end of the year. They will receive a new Chromebook at the start of 9th grade (freshman year).
Chromebook Returns take place on May 19th during School.
There will be chromebooks available for students to use after these dates if needed.
Seniors (12th graders): Seniors may purchase their Chromebook for $50 or return it at the end of the year.
Chromebook Returns take place on May 6th - May 8th.
There will be chromebooks available for seniors to use after these dates if needed for finals.
Please continue to remind students to take care of their device and charger. Thank you for your help keeping our Chromebook program running smoothly!
Sincerely,
Jacob Cygan

PHONE UPDATE at Highland CUSD #5-
Phone service should now be restored as service providers were able to find an alternate route that appears to have fixed the problem. Thank you for your patience.

We are aware that district phone lines are down, and incoming and outgoing calls are not working for district and school phones. We have communicated with both HCS and CTS and hope service is restored soon. If there is an emergency and you need to reach your child, please email the appropriate school attendance office. Thank you for your understanding.

This message is specific to Alhambra Primary, but fyi to all district families. Due to the weather, power was lost in Alhambra today and was anticipated to be back on line later this morning. We have now been notified that power will not be restored until late this afternoon. We plan to be in session all day at all schools, but have invited parents to pick up kids at Alhambra Primary IF they prefer. Buses will run on normal schedules this afternoon. We have bottled water and an alternative lunch plan for Alhambra Primary so staff and students will be provided for throughout the day. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we deal with less than ideal conditions.
As some of you may have heard, early in the week it was reported that a 2-word threat with a date was reported on a bathroom stall. Building and District administration worked with the Highland Police Department to investigate and identify the individual who was responsible for the threat. It was addressed and no further threat remains. The student was identified, admitted to writing the threat, and appropriate action was taken.
Now, we continue to chase spin-off social media posts regarding additional threats. We have no knowledge or proof of any additional threats being made. We are working with the Highland Police Department to run down any additional posts on social media claiming that a threat remains. PLEASE, we ask that all students, staff, parents and community members contact either the Highland High School administration or the Highland Police Department if you SEE or HEAR directly from an individual about an on-going threat. We will follow up and make sure all threats are taken seriously. We make safety and security our number one priority, but chasing ghosts is impossible. If you SEE something on social media, please screenshot it and report it to HHS administration or Highland Police Department.
Let me repeat, we are not aware of any additional threats at any Highland CUSD No. 5 building. We need to work as partners to ensure that all threats to the safety of our students and/or staff are investigated and appropriate action is taken to ensure our schools remain safe. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
