The School Counselors have enjoyed meeting with HMS 8th graders to talk about careers and their interests this week in preparation for HHS registration!


Students in Mrs. Ayer’s Algebra II class solve equations to begin class. Several students explained their findings to the class as a teaching tool. They answered the problems correctly as well!

Mr. Deibert's Building and Trade's class going to the new Highland Public Safety Building. It's great that our students are within walking distance of such a great resource. Today, the students get to see the construction company setting trusses.

Ms. Seelhoefer and Ms. Forsythe work with their class on their Capstone Project for Growth Mindset. This has been a huge unit for the ACT class, and they are wrapping it up with the research project. Growth Mindset has taught the students to always keep working and trying.

Thursday, January 28 is a PLC Day at HHS and students may leave school at 11:22 am after 5th hour or stay for study hall or tutoring. Students who stay can use the Commons or Library to complete missing work or study if needed. Students in Mrs. Ott’s Freshman Biology class learn about DNA 🧬 . DNA is short for deoxyribonucleic acid and is the molecule that contains the genetic code of organisms.


Students in Mrs. Basden’s Honors Chemistry class conduct a chemical reactions lab. Here we see students heating magnesium and another group completing a lab analysis.

HHS Counselors Mary Jackson, Amber Spaeth, and Carrie Lieberman meet with students behind the scenes to prepare for the 21-22 school year. Counselors meet individually with students to help select courses for the upcoming school year. Face to face interactions are so important.



Highland High School senior, Spencer Powers, was awarded a $200 scholarship after finishing 2nd place at the VFW Voice of Democracy Essay Contest last month. This year’s prompt asked, “Is this the country the founding fathers had envisioned?”

Students in PE classes are still able to participate as they wear masks, wash hands, and sanitize equipment after use. Today we see some floor hockey being played in Mrs. Hayes’ class.


Students in Mrs. Himsel’s AP Comp class watch To Build a Fire by Jack London. Students also incorporate Chromebooks to answer critical thinking questions. It’s interesting to point out that remote learners were also able to view the film while at home.
