Parents & Students,
Some of you already know that Bryce Meacham, a student at HMS on Team 8 Black, was diagnosed with cancer last fall. Bryce's mom has shared the following information about his illness: Bryce has Ewing’s Sarcoma. Ewing’s is a childhood/adolescent cancer, which is found in the bone and soft tissue. Bryce had noticed a tumor on his leg and we had it removed early in the school year. Because this is an aggressive cancer we have an aggressive treatment plan. The plan consists of 30 weeks, including 15 rounds of chemo treatment and they are adding radiation around the 12th week or 6th treatment pending no setbacks. He is admitted to the hospital for treatment every other week.
Several have reached out to ask what they can do to help and/or show support. T-shirts and hoodies that are being sold as a fundraiser. You can follow this link to order online:
https://aa-sportswear.com/team_bryce/shop/home
The shirts will be delivered to the school. In addition, there are bracelets and key chains available to purchase. The bracelets are $5 each and keychains are $8 each. Students may stop by Mrs. Kleinmann's room to purchase those items.
Attached please find a flyer for a local fundraiser being planned for Saturday, March 30th to support Bryce's family as well as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This event is open to anyone 21 and over. This is not a school-sponsored activity. It is being sponsored by TEAM BRYCE and TEAM SWEEN. However, items being raffled off at the event are being made available for students to win in order to support TEAM BRYCE. These items are an iPad Pro and a bat signed by the entire Cardinal baseball team. Raffle tickets will be sold at school before the event. You can buy 1 ticket for $5 or 5 tickets for $20. The drawing will take place on March 30th at the event, but you do not need to be present to win.
There will be a silent auction the night of the event. Anyone who wishes to donate items to be auctioned off please contact Ann Kleinmann at
akleinmann@highlandcusd5.org. Also, please feel free to share this flyer on social media and help us spread the word.
