Congratulations to these four student-athletes for being nominated for the IESA Scholar Attitude Award by their coaches. These students excel in the classroom and on the athletic field. Way to go Phoenix Parker, Rachael Reckmann, Taylor Venhaus and Joshua Knobloch.

Student Council will be running a "Souper" Bowl Can Food Drive, with the Super Bowl being our inspiration. It begins February 5th and continues through February 9th. This is a way for HMS to give to the community, by donating cans to the Highland Food Pantry. For each can a student brings in, they will receive a piece of candy. For every five cans, they will receive a skip to the front of the line pass, and with every ten cans a student will receive a soda. Donations will be counted daily, so that prizes may be handed out on the spot that day. However, please bring cans in on multiple days to receive multiple prizes. Thanks again for being "Souper" HMS!!

This week, our HMS Band students are honored to have an amazingly talented guest clinician. Major Michelle Rakers, President's Own Marine Band Conductor (retired), has been working with our students throughout the day to help develop their skills. Mrs Rakers was stationed in Washington DC and directed bands, orchestras and ensembles who performed at the White House for Presidential events and for foreign dignitaries.
The President's Own is considered to be the finest band and orchestra in the United States and possibly the world. This group tours and performs throughout the United States and in Europe regularly.
Under her direction, the President's Own performed for President Clinton, President Obama, President Trump and President Biden.
Mrs Rakers currently resides in Denmark and was brought to Highland Middle School to work with the HMS bands this week and funded by an anonymous donation and we are very grateful for this amazing opportunity.
