Good afternoon Highland CUSD No. 5 Parents and Staff, I wanted to send a quick update regarding some concerning information many of you may have seen or read. The Statewide Terrorism & Intelligence Center has been made aware of a threat circulating TikTok stating “school shootings and bomb threats for every school in the USA even elementary” on Friday, December 17th, 2021. Several states have reported this threat has been circulating through their school districts. At this time, the STIC currently has no specific information concerning any threats or attacks planned at Illinois schools. Law enforcement and school officials are encouraged to remain vigilant and report all suspicious behavior. Suspicious incidents should be reported immediately to local law enforcement and the STIC at [email protected] or 877-455-7842. Further, conversations continue with the Highland Police Department regarding posts from students within our own district. HPD investigated and determined that there is not a direct threat to any of our schools at this time. We plan to have increased police presence in and around schools tomorrow. Please be vigilant and report any concerning behaviors or posts. Thank you for your patience and assistance in keeping our students and staff safe as we enter the Holiday season. Sincerely, Michael S. Sutton, Superintendent
