Alhambra Primary is pumped for the 19-20 school year! We love welcoming back our students with some fun music, high fives, and plenty of hugs. We were all so happy to see these familiar faces, and some new ones too. This year is off to a great start!
Star Wars day was today in first grade at Alhambra! This unique project blends writing and literacy with film production and graphic arts. First the students begin by watching the original 1977 Star Wars film. Next, a guest speaker, Mr. Brian Knoblach, graphic designer and Star Wars fan talks to the students about the process of filming the original Star Wars by using drawn/painted backgrounds, mini models, and sound effects. Students then work in teams to create a story line with a setting, characters, dialogue, a problem and solution. After that they practice with their action figures and film ! This is also a nice summer project for kids using items any family has at home.

All students in Mrs. Kronk’s class participated in an engineering project called “Hole in 10.” In this project students had to design a ball maze with 5 various recyclables and 5 directional changes. The ball had to land safely in a cup at the end without bouncing out. This is a unique project with study based on Newton’s laws of motion and understanding gravity as a force that can be directed and utilized to slow, speed up, or stop the ball.

Yesterday was Letter K in our ABC Character Countdown! We wrote "Keys to Success" to share with lower grades. First graders pair with Kindergarten students to pass on advice for next year.
